Maintaining Your Luxurious Granite Kitchen Sink

When you purchase something of a higher quality like a granite kitchen sink, you want to make sure that you maintain it at all times. Much of the allure of this type of sink comes from the fact that it inherently fights off scratches, chips and stains. It is also heat resistant up to 535 degrees Fahrenheit.

However, its durability doesn’t mean that it doesn’t require regular maintenance. So to ensure that your sink keeps up its luxurious look, consider these maintenance tips …

  1. Watch Your Water Flow – The type of water that flows into your sink can make the difference between a clean and clear sink and mineral deposits that produce limescale. If you’re in a hard water area, you may consider some type of filter for better drinking water, as well as water that will be easier on your sink.
  2. Remove Limescale - If you find that you do develop a limescale buildup in your sink, you can purchase a limescale remove at any local hardware store, or online. Also, you can try creating a solution from hot water and white vinegar. It loosens the limescale and makes it easier to scrub away.
  3. Get Rid of Stains Safely - If you find that your granite kitchen sink has acquired another type of stain, you may need an abrasive cleanser like Soft Scrub, along with a Scotchbrite pad, to remove. Luckily, Scotchbrite pads don’t damage granite surfaces.
  4. Metal Residue - Again, stains and scratches to granite sinks are a tad bit rare, but if you find metal residue in the bottom of your skin after dragging metal pots or pans across the bottom, you can remove it with a soft nylon brush and Soft Scrub.

Keep in mind that a good maintenance technique for your sink is to keep it clean and dry when not in use. Also, if you can keep sharp objects out of your sink and avoid metal or wire wool pads, bleaches, paint strippers and drain cleaners, your sink should maintain its luxurious appearance for many years.
